Summary of our client 

New World Taumarunui is a supermarket located in the town of Taumarunui, which is situated on the North Island of New Zealand. It is part of the New World supermarket chain, which is owned and operated by Aiyad Khan. 

Aiyad Khan started his Foodstuffs career in 1999 when he joined New World Victoria Park as a part-time check out operator. Over the space of nine years, he covered a range of roles spanning grocery, storeroom, buying and pricing. In 2008 Aiyad joined Foodstuffs wholesale business Gilmours, where he spent the next eight years before joining the team at PAK’nSAVE Sylvia Park as Fresh Foods Manager and then as Operations Manager. In 2018 Aiyad became Store Manager at PAK’nSAVE Kaitaia before stints at Island Bay New World and PAK’nSAVE Silverdale.  

New World Taumarunui has been in the community for 65 years and has recently moved into a $14million state-of-the-art purpose-built space that is 40% bigger and aims to create a shopping experience that is enjoyable, easy, and stress-free for its customers.  

New World Taumarunui is embarrassing technology in all areas of their business from cleaning robots, keyless environments with fingerprint access, Automated sensor lights, application-based time tracking for employees as well as paperless food safety systems.  

Challenges 

Resources: In a small town it’s been increasingly challenging to find a suitable cleaner that was available to work outside of core opening hours and is physically able to mop the 2000sm space 

Consistency: It’s been challenging to consistently keep all areas of the store clean. 

Budgeting: With inconsistency in human hours and productivity it was challenging to forecast and manage a cleaning budget when every week it was different.

Cost savings: We have a fixed cost each month that has reduced our overall cleaning spend. 

Improved cleaning: cleaning robots consistently provide a high standard of cleaning. They never miss an area and if for some reason it is unable to access an area it will notify us, and we can loop back to cover the area. 

Increased productivity: cleaning robots can work around the clock, and they don’t call in sick. 

Timesaving: cleaning robots take approximately 1hr to clean 2000sm. A cleaner doing the same job could take anywhere from 8-16 hours. They take approximately 10min to clean the water and reset it for the next clean. 

Safety: cleaning robots have reduced the risk of accidents and injuries that can occur when cleaning is done manually.  

Ease of Use: The robots are simple to use. We have 6 people who have been trained to use them and have not had any issues.

What was the process like working with Mode Technology to implement the robots? 

We started initial discussions with Mode Technology when we were in a temporary space and struggling to hire a cleaner.  

The new 2000sm store was then designed with robots in mind. This influenced floor finishes, shelving design and even the layout of the store. 

Right from the early design stages Dallas kept in regular contact and when the time came to move into our new space Mode Technology delivered our first cleaning robot to trial in the space for 3 weeks. This gave us the confidence that we had made the right choice to move forward with cleaning robots and that we had chosen the right robot to be part of our team and this robot stayed with us until our new robot was delivered. 

Its been an easy and seamless process withing with Mode Technology.
