Where It All Started: Why We Back Rugby League in Wellington
At Mode Technology, our support for Wellington Rugby League goes beyond traditional sponsorship — it’s personal, and it’s deeply connected to who we are and where we come from.
We’ve chosen to back the game at every level — from the Wellington Rugby League Competition (competing across all grades), through to regional representation with the Wellington Orcas, and right down to grassroots club level with the Petone Panthers Rugby League Club, supporting tamariki, men’s and women’s teams.
For us, this isn’t just about putting our name on a jersey. It’s about investing in a sport that has given so much to our community, while also recognising that rugby league doesn’t always receive the same level of funding and visibility as other codes in Wellington.
This support is about helping rebuild something special — strengthening pathways, lifting participation, and ensuring tamariki today can see a future for themselves in the game here in Wellington.
For our Director, Dallas, this is especially meaningful. He has played rugby league his entire life — starting at school, progressing through the Petone Panthers, representing at regional level with the Orcas, and ultimately earning an NRL contract. That journey shapes how we see the game: not just as sport, but as opportunity, discipline, and belonging.
Compared to more commercial partnerships we hold, this feels different. It’s more grassroots, more personal, and more about impact than exposure. It’s about giving back to a community and a game that has shaped lives, including our own.
We’re proud to stand alongside rugby league in Wellington — and even prouder to be part of its future.
Partnering with Wellington Rugby: Building Community On and Off the Field
At Mode Technology, we believe the strongest partnerships go far beyond business transactions, they’re about people, community, and shared purpose. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to partner with the Wellington Rugby Football Union, supporting both the men’s and women’s game across the region.
Rugby in Wellington is more than a sport. It’s a connection point for families, friends, workplaces, and tamariki who grow up dreaming of pulling on a jersey one day. Being part of that journey is something we value deeply.
More than sponsorship — it’s shared experiences
Our partnership gives us the opportunity to bring our clients, friends, and wider network into the heart of the game. Whether it’s enjoying a match at the stadium or experiencing the atmosphere of a big home game, these moments create real connection beyond the office.
One of the highlights for us is sharing tickets with tamariki. Seeing their excitement as they walk into a stadium, watch their heroes take the field, and feel part of something bigger is genuinely special. These are the moments that stay with them long after the final whistle.
We also love opening the door to exclusive opportunities like training camp visits and meet-the-player events. These experiences give our Mode community a behind-the-scenes look at the dedication, discipline, and teamwork that goes into high-performance sport — lessons that translate far beyond the field.
Supporting the game in practical ways
Our relationship with Wellington Rugby isn’t just about game days. We also support the union behind the scenes with office technology solutions and commercial cleaning services, helping ensure their operations run smoothly.
From boardroom technology that keeps meetings efficient, to maintaining clean and professional facilities, we’re proud to play a small but important role in enabling their wider organisation to function at its best.
Creating opportunities for players
One of the most meaningful parts of this partnership is being able to offer work opportunities to a select group of players. Balancing professional sport with life outside the game can be challenging, and we’re proud to provide flexible roles that support their development both on and off the field.
It’s our way of investing in people — not just athletes — and helping build pathways that extend beyond rugby.
A partnership built on community
At its core, our relationship with Wellington Rugby Football Union is about community. It’s about showing up, supporting the game, and creating shared experiences for clients, families, staff, and players alike.
We’re proud of what this partnership represents, not just what happens on match day, but the connections, opportunities, and memories built throughout the season.
And we’re even more excited about what we can continue to build together in the years ahead.
